About The Event
For the third consecutive year, German Week Melbourne brings together the German-Australian business community for an afternoon of insights, discussion and networking. On 20 October 2026, we look forward to welcoming guests to Hall & Wilcox from 2:30 PM for an engaging discussion on “The Impact of Elections for German Businesses in Victoria.”
Victoria is an important location for international businesses, with a diverse economy and strong capabilities across advanced manufacturing, technology, health and life sciences, clean energy and research. For international companies considering establishing or expanding their operations, factors such as infrastructure, skills, planning, industry support, regulation and investment conditions can all influence business decisions. The Victorian Government also plays an important role in supporting international investment and shaping the broader business environment through policy, programmes and state-level regulation.
With the Victorian state election scheduled for 28 November 2026, the event will explore what elections and potential changes in government can mean for businesses operating in Victoria. The discussion will look at the broader political, demographic and economic factors shaping Victoria as a business location, and consider what German companies should be aware of when navigating the state's evolving business environment.
We are pleased to be joined by Simon Kuestenmacher, geographer and demographer at The Demographics Group, who researches demographic and societal trends and their implications for businesses and the wider economy. Simon regularly shares his insights through his LinkedIn platform and writes for Australian media outlets including The New Daily and The Australian.
Oliver Jankowsky, Partner and Head of International at Hall & Wilcox - an official partner of German Week Melbourne - brings extensive experience advising international and Australian clients on cross-border transactions, inbound investment and business establishment in Australia. As Head of the firm's German Desk, he supports European and German businesses navigating the Australian market and acts as a connector between different markets, cultures and commercial priorities.
We are also delighted to hear from Michael Pearce, Honorary Consul-General for Germany in Melbourne, as he finishes his tenure at the end of the year. He will share some lasting impressions of his time as Honorary Consul-General, what's to come next and what the German community in Melbourne can look forward to.
Further speakers to be released shortly.
The afternoon will provide an opportunity to gain practical insights into Victoria's business environment, hear different perspectives on the upcoming election and connect with others from the German-Australian business community.
Light refreshments will be provided.
