About The Event

GERMAN COMEDY NIGHT

Because apparently Germans are funny. Who knew? 😂

What do Germans do better than anyone else?

Arrive on time. Follow rules. Complain about everything. And apparently
 comedy.

For German Week Melbourne, we're putting German culture under the comedy microscope and inviting five comedians to have a good laugh at the things that make Germany and Germans, uniquely German.

From growing up in Germany and dealing with German parents, rules and traditions, to visiting Germany and wondering why everything has a procedure
 nothing is off limits.

And before you worry, you don't need to speak German. The entire show is in English.

Aurelia St Clair

German-born and ready to expose the weird, wonderful and wonderfully German things she grew up with.

‘impossible to resist a charm offensive delivered with such offensive charm’ - The Age

★★★★ - The Music

Maren May

Another German with plenty to say about German life, culture and all those little things that Germans somehow consider completely normal.

'A sharp eye for the absurd.' - Australian Arts Review

★★★★ - Hugging Comedians

Sonia Di Iorio

Italian, European and no stranger to the cultural chaos that comes with growing up in Europe. Expect a perspective that may hit a little too close to home.

'Quick-witted, tight and oozing with confidence.' - Popculture-y

'Clearly an accomplished performer.'  - Squirrel Comedy

Chris Demos

Greek comedian with great material about Germany. Sometimes the best way to understand Germans is to let someone from the outside have a crack at them.

'Strong stage presence, gaggy punchlines and insightful storytelling.'

★★★★ - The Funny Tonne

Janina S. – German Baking Queen

You may know her for her delicious German cakes and treats, but this time Janina is swapping her baking apron for a microphone! Her first-ever stand-up comedy performance will bring a fresh German perspective, plenty of stories and, most likely, heaps of laughs. Will she be the next Comedy Queen? Come and find out!

KICK OFF WITH DRINKS. STAND UP WITH LAUGHS.

We'll kick things off with around an hour of drinks, mingling and getting together before the comedians take the stage.

Then it's approximately one hour of stand-up comedy, with plenty of laughs, cultural observations, stereotypes and those "OMG, that's SO German!" moments.

Whether you're German, German-Australian, have lived in Germany, survived a German holiday, have a German partner, friend, or parent, or simply enjoy watching another culture get roasted, you're invited.
