About The Event

As part of the exhibition The Letting Go [2012-2026], Linden New Art invites audiences to a special guided tour exploring both Natascha Stellmach’s work and the historic building of the gallery.

Portrait from Natascha Stellmach’s Frauke’s Letting Go series, showing a blonde woman with one arm raised and the word “KERKER” written in red on her upper arm.

The tour offers a deeper insight into Stellmach’s long-term project (2012–2026), which brings together performance, photography, and participatory practice. At its core lies the question: What would you like to let go of?

The exhibition creates a space for reflection on vulnerability, memory, and personal transformation.

A particular focus of the tour will be on themes of origin and identity, which are central to Stellmach’s practice.

Born in Australia to German parents, she grew up between cultural contexts - an experience that continues to shape her work. Today, she lives and works between Berlin and Melbourne, navigating and connecting both worlds.

The tour will also include an introduction to the history and architecture of Linden New Art. The building itself reflects a German connection: the Victorian mansion was commissioned by German-born merchant Moritz Michaelis and designed by architect Alfred Friedrich Kursteiner, who was also of German origin.

Following the tour, refreshments will be served, offering an opportunity for informal exchange.

The event is co-presented by German Week Melbourne and is ideal for anyone interested in contemporary art, German-Australian perspectives, and questions of identity, migration, and cultural belonging.
