Right in the heart of Melbourne, we're setting German culture loose for two weeks. We're kicking it off properly: with an Opening Night Movie Party.

Join us for a pre-party with good music and drinks, then continue the evening with a movie where laughter takes over.

Empty Nesters (Die Ältern), the new comedy film from director Sönke Wortmann, takes on that strange stage of family life when everything begins to shift.

Letting go is harder than holding on.

Hannes has everything he thought he wanted: a loving family, a comfortable home, and a life built on routine. But when his daughter decides to move out—and his wife decides to move on—his carefully balanced world begins to fall apart. Suddenly left behind, Hannes is forced out of his comfort zone and into a new phase of life he never saw coming. As he struggles to redefine himself as a father, a partner, and a man, he discovers that letting go might be the only way to move forward.

Sharp, funny and highly relatable, it’s a story about family, relationships and the question of who you are when the roles you’ve known for years start shifting.

And yes, there are English subtitles, so it’s the kind of German you don’t need German for.
