About The Event
SAME PROCEDURE, DIFFERENT CULTURE
The Sound of Music meets Dinner for One
A Cross-Cultural Quiz Night
Every Australian knows The Sound of Music. Every German knows Dinner for One.
Ask either one about the other's and you'll get a blank stare. Stereotypically.

From the Austrian Alps to Miss Sophie's dinner table, this evening takes a playful look at two very different screen classics and at the traditions, stereotypes and misunderstandings that surround them. Watch selected scenes from both and discover what makes them so memorable.
University of Melbourne German Studies students will take you behind the scenes of The Sound of Music, exploring its historical background, cultural significance and very different reception across countries.
Join the conversation: compare your own experiences and find out how differently the same cultural icons can be viewed across countries. Then put that to the test, in a fun German-Australian Culture trivia round.
No German required, no expert knowledge needed. Whether you speak German or not, this evening is for anyone into film, Germany, Austria, or a good cross-cultural encounter.
Tickets are $15 and include a Hofbräuhaus snack box and soft drink. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are available.
